Description

MODE Solutions accurately describes the physical operation of both conventional and non-conventional waveguide geometries alike, allowing product engineers and R&D scientists to focus on innovating new design concepts while being confident in the accuracy of the simulation results.

The core technology of MODE Solutions allows it to detail truly arbitrary waveguide geometries, from traditional fiber and rib waveguides to more sophisticated devices involving photonic crystal fiber, sloping-wall ridge waveguides, and spatially-varying refractive index distributions.

Specifications

Accurate Computational Engine Intuitive Layout Editor
  • Contains a fully vectorial computational engine that hosts a highly efficient eigenvalue search algorithm.
  • Uses the conformal meshing propriatary technology to obtain a sub-cell accuracy.
  • Provides complex propagation constants, polarization states for guided and leaky modes, Poynting vector data for power flow, and customized integration of field data.
  • Tracks specific guided modes during frequency sweeps to provide dispersion and group velocity data.
  • Use the CAD interface to draw or import micro- and nano-photonic structures easily.
  • Design parameterization and hierarchical layout.
  • The interface provides an intuitive workflow for creating and running simulations and efficiently analyzing the resulting data.
Integrated Data Visualization and Analysis
  • The analysis tab allows for quickly plotting and visualizing modal and frequency dependent data.
  • Use the built-in near-to-far field transformation, macrobending loss, or coupling efficiency tools to get answers quickly.
  • Simple and straightforward syntax is used in a high level programming language similar to MATLAB and C that includes "EM Toolbox" functions that provide the framework for in-depth analysis of any situation.
  • The scripting language is comprehensive, providing users with the ability to write scripts to control all aspects of setting up, running and analyzing simulations.
  • MODE Solutions contains a host of built-in functions that give users direct access to quantities of interest.
  • Quantities such as power flows, power integrations, and near-to-far field transformations are easily computed.
Accurate and Flexible Material Modeling Capabilities Supported systems
  • Accurately describe optical structures that consist of any combination of dielectrics, semiconductors, and/or metals in arbitrary geometries; dispersive and anisotropic properties are also treated.
  • The built-in materials database includes several pre-defined materials as examples and to get started quickly.
  • Propriatary multi-coefficient material model, that describes materials in broadband simulations more accurately than classical models (Drude, Lorentz, Debye).
  • Windows XP, Vista and 7 (32 and 64 bit versions)
  • Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6
  • RedHat Enterprise Linux: x86_64 (version 5) and i386 (versions 4 & 5)
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise 10: x86_64 and i386
